Afghan War doc Hell and Back Again at the SIFF Cinema

The war in Afghanistan has been going on for so long – longer than Vietnam, longer than the Civil War, longer than WWII, longer even than the war that created this country in the first place – that there’s a danger of it turning to wallpaper, if it hasn’t already. A hazily-defined conflict, fought guerrilla-style in a rocky, mountainous country half the planet away? There isn’t much glamorous or romantic about that. But there are still lives being put on the line over there, and maybe we owe it to ourselves to try and experience a little taste of what it’s like? Either way, Danfung Dennis’ new war documentary Hell and Back Again is playing the SIFF Cinema at the Film Center right now. (FULL STORY: Walter Addiego, San Francisco Chronicle/Seattle Times)
