Angry Fags

Straight from Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Garage to Wilton Manors’ Island City Stage comes Topher Payne’s comedy Angry Fags. The play is a jolting example of the next era of LGBT plays.  They’re no longer about acceptance and the desire for equality, where the gay characters are saints battling bigotry.  These characters react to a tragedy with really poor judgement, and the consequences just spiral out of control in surprising and hilarious ways.

This explosive new play has been described as an ucompromising Oscar Wilde-meets-Fight Club fantasia about how good ideas go bad, with fascinating forays into American politics, bomb building and pistachios. “Besides the title being provocative in an era where political correctness often rules,” says director Andy Rogow, ” I love the fact that the leading characters are not heroes.

This production will feature the Island City Stage award-winning design dream team of Michael McClain(sets), Peter Lovello (costumes), Preston Bircher (lights) and David Hart (sound.) Mark Demeter and George Wentzler join the team as video producers.

Angry Fags is the company’s premiere presentation in their new home at Island City Stage/The Abyss Theatre, 2304 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors, FL  33305.   Rogow says that, “Renovation work has been started, with plans to remove the pole in the center of the space and insulation of the garage door to reduce noise. We’ve also secured additional parking at both the Poverello Live Well Center behind the theatre and at their main location a block south of the theatre.”

The production open November 12th, and runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 5:00pm through December 13. Tickets are $35 and group and non-profit rates are available. For tickets or more information, call 954-519-2533 or visit islandcitystage.org.
