The 27-year-old Ballet San Antonio has chopped down its final performance of the 2011-12 season; instead of a pair of performances at the big, expensive Lila Cockrell Theatre, it’s doing a single staging of the spring choreography showcase Off Center at the much smaller and cost-effective Carver Community Cultural Center. And but things are not quite rosy all around for BSA; fourteen of the company’s nineteen dancers were recently laid off. Chairman Mario Vazquez remains optimistic, however, which is good, because no one’s interested in sad ballet. (Jasmina Wellinghoff, San Antonio Express-News)
