The Blue Note Jazz Festival threw its first party last June – actually, a series of parties. Actually a lot of parties, all over New York (and by “all over” I mean mostly the Blue Note jazz club, B.B. King’s blues club and the Highline Ballroom, but hey), with people like Bootsy and McCoy Tyner and Meshell Ndegeocello playing. And they all had fun, and so did audiences, presumably, because they’re doing it again this year, the Second Annual Blue Note Jazz Fest, and this year they’re bringing in Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) and the Commodores and Average White Band, as well. (Whoa. Average White Band? Digging deep.) It’s jazz, it’s New York, it’s June 10-30. It is. (FULL ARTICLE: Nate Chinen, ArtsBeat, The New York Times)
