The Charleston Ballet Theatre has been the cornerstone of Charleston’s dance scene for decades now, but it’s been pounded into hamburger recently; most of its board recently resigned, its donations have been shrinking, and the Charleston Ballet Guild voted earlier this month to dissolve because, basically, everything was falling apart and also the CBT had been mean to the Guild. Then dancers started talking about mistreatment. It’s been a hell of a few months for the Charleston Ballet Theatre, but they are resolute and have all sorts of plans for the future, provided they can get through this summer. Root for them. Dancers need work, and Charleston’s a great town. (Adam Parker, Charleston Post and Courier)
