Chinese Philharmonic Maestro Throws Down with NYC Mugger

Long Yu, music director of the Chinese Philharmonic, was in New York recently to play a concert with the New York Philharmonic in honor of Chinese New Year. He probably wasn’t expecting to get mugged, mostly because muggers no longer exist in New York, except for on one block of Columbus Ave. up around 70th, apparently, where some random guy on Monday asked Yu for a smoke and then punched him in the eye. Bad gamble. Long Yu doesn’t play like that. (FULL ARTICLE: Daniel J. Wakin, The New York Times)
