Guest conductor William Eddins, who generally leads the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, will take the reins of the Cleveland Orchestra on Saturday the 31st in hopes of guiding them through a reasonable interpretation of Charlie Chaplin’s score to his immortal 1931 film City Lights, which is a thing that, William Eddins would like to impress upon you, is not easy to accomplish, not a bit, no way. Eddins’ descriptions of what goes into something like this – knowing the cues, knowing where to get frantic and where to lay out, knowing the whole bloody film inside and out – are just exhausting to read. But what’s cooler than seeing a silent film with live musical accompaniment, especially if it’s the Cleveland Orchestra? (Zachary Lewis, Cleveland Plain Dealer)
