Dallas Museum of Art Revisits the Twenties

The 1920s had flappers and Prohibition, which must have made it a great time to be alive if you were able to score a date with a flapper and didn’t go blind or dead from drinking “gin” that was mostly lighter fluid and juniper berries. No one particularly reveres the art that emerged from the decade, generally, but it might be time to reevaluate why that is. The DMA’s new Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties exhibition has a hundred and thirty examples of the best work from the decade on display through May 27, and remember, before the Twenties, there was no plastic surgery, no Miss America, no non-theatrical makeup. America shook itself loose in the Twenties. (Stephen Becker, Art & Seek)
