Detroit has a lot of empty buildings in it, yes. Along Woodward Avenue, entire blocks are completely bereft of any commercial traffic. Artists are always looking for places to show their stuff. Detroit has many artists. Do you see the synergy there? A group called Woodward Windows did, and beginning last year they started sticking artwork in the empty windows of Woodward Avenue. Of course, the irony is that if this project does increase foot traffic along Woodward, the artists will likely have to relocate, because then the stores will be bought by soulful places like Quicken Loans and H&R Block.
