For a cultural institution recovering from a bitter strike, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra appears to be doing a bang-up job raising money.
The DSO raised $6.4 million between Sept. 1, 2011 and Dec. 31, 2011, generating in four months more than half what it hopes to raise over the entire 2011-2012 fiscal year. In December alone, the symphony pulled in $1.3 million in grants, capped by $300,000 from the Detroit-based McGregor Fund.
