So the consensus seems to be – as has been foreshadowed since, what, October? – that The Artist is going to clean up at the Oscars this Sunday, because it is black and white and A Silent Film! and because the Academy is mostly comprised of old white men. This presupposes the notion that Best Picture is still important enough for people to get riled up about, which is a notion that Crash‘s victory in 2006 should have quashed for all time. Anyway, here’s David Edelstein basically saying that it won’t be such a big deal when The Artist wins Best Picture – well, it will be, but not in the sense that there should be any outrage or irritation about it – which probably means that The Descendants will actually win.
