Expo Chicago Reveals Exhibitors, Says, “Hey, Chicago Has a Coast, Too”

Jokes about “flyover country” have never, ever been funny; about the best you could hope for is that anyone making one was so obviously a snob that it wouldn’t take much effort to dismiss them as foolish. When you’re Merchandise Mart Properties, though, and you cancel an art fair of three decades’ standing because, and this is the quote, “the majority of the art fair market… has gravitated toward the coasts,” that’s really not funny, at all. Luckily, former Art Chicago director Tony Karman is having none of it; he’s starting up a new fair, Expo Chicago, which will have 100 booths and will set up at Navy Pier, where a large body of water meets land, which is what a coast is.
