Todd Haynes’ 2002 Douglas Sirk-inspired film Far From Heaven didn’t do a whole lot at the box office; period melodramas remain a hard sell, at least on screen. It’s probably, on balance, easier to get away with them on stage, especially in the form of a musical, and that seems to be what a quartet of Broadway heavyweights are banking on with the news that a musical version of the film will debut at this year’s Williamstown Theater Festival.
