The San Antonio Opera has not been healthy for awhile now – getting sued in federal court by a local musicians’ union will do that to you – and the notion that it might soon file for bankruptcy was heavily rumored in January. Now the ax blade has, in fact, come down: the company announced yesterday that it plans to file liquidation bankruptcy within twenty days, which is pretty much the end. So wave a nice goodbye to the San Antonio Opera, congratulate it on its fifteen-year run, and now let’s see if the new Opera Theater San Antonio can step in as a suitable replacement.
