Feathered Hair and Agony at Huntington’s Heckscher Museum

High school! Those were the days, right, high school? The prom, passing notes in the hallways, going out for the track team, taking tests, trying to get a date:  I wish that could have gone on forever. (Note: I wish nothing of the sort. What kind of masochist do you think I am? I got out of my high school as soon as I possibly could and never looked back.) It’s such an odd stretch of time – four years really isn’t that long, and yet think about the strides you make between 14 and 18 – that we’re lucky to have photographers like Joseph Szabo around to capture what’s going on. Szabo’s shots of Malverne High School students in the ’70s and ’80s are up now in a new exhibition, Coming of Age in America, at the Heckscher Museum in Huntington through March 25.
