Gerstein, Houston Symphony Start 2012 With Brace of Rachmaninoff

Sergei Rachmaninoff was talented enough that you can fairly call him a madman. That quartet of piano concertos he wrote – and, granted, I’m no pianist, but have you seen the scores for those things? The ink in some places is dense enough that you can barely see the paper beneath. Thankfully, Kirill Gerstein is not the sort to shy away from a challenge. He and the Houston Symphony are embarked upon RachFest at the moment, a three-weekend series that sees Gerstein playing the four concertos, along with a healthy smattering of other Rach masterpieces.
