If you’re one of the 25 million people who bought George Michael’s Faith, you’ve already seen an example of Russell Young’s work; Young took the cover photo, which made the ex-Wham! frontman look like a brooding – and meticulously manicured – biker. Young shot skyward after that, moving on to photograph luminaries like R.E.M. and Bjork, among many, many others. He started painting around the turn of the millennium, had his first solo show in 2003, nearly died from H1N1 flu in 2010, and now the Goss-Michael Foundation (same Michael) is staging a retrospective of his work, starting March 7.
