A century after his peak, there’s seemingly not much more to be gleaned from the life of Harry Houdini. An actor/magician who can convincingly portray Houdini and also perform some of his more harrowing escapes? Now we’re talking. This is what the House Theatre of Chicago’s got on offer right now at the Chopin Theatre with its new production, Death and Harry Houdini; lead actor Dennis Watkins does some of Houdini’s most celebrated and notorious escapes, including the infamous “Chinese Water Torture Cell” escape, and does it in a theater that’s small enough for certain audience members to get some splashback.
