Hey, Santa Barbara, Come Watch John Fisher Carve Marble

At Camp Ocean Pines, not terribly far from the lip of the Pacific Ocean, master sculptor and California Sculptors’ Symposium instructor John Fisher will, beginning April 22, bring out the huge block of marble that he began working on during last year’s CSS (he’s pulling the figure of a female out of the rock) and start doing the fine work on what will, in 2013, be refined into a finished sculpture, of white Italian marble, in the classical fashion. Watching someone who really knows what they’re doing drag a recognizable form out of a rough block of stone is quite something to behold, and also it’s probably going to be very nice out and you’re just right there up next to the water, and on April 28th, Saturday, the Sculpture By the Sea exhibition will be open, and there will be refreshments maybe? Who knows, go watch some sculpting. Partial proceeds benefit Camp Ocean Pines, too. (FULL ARTICLE: Santa Barbara Independent)
