Inaugural Dallas Biennale Is A Little Confusing In Its Intent

So. The non-collecting Dallas Contemporary art museum has put together a biennial, en homage a l’Whitney, or something, that is making ARTINFO’s Kyle Chayka, at the very least, scratch his head a bit, inasmuch as there’s no real way of knowing yet if the Dallas Biennale is intended to be a real biennial, a critique of biennials (and there is a lot of criticism to be meted out, yes there is), an anti-biennial or – who knows? Maybe everyone just wanted to get together and drink Lone Star and look at art. The show features nineteen international artists spread across a half-dozen venues in and around Dallas, and it opens March 29, and, hey, it’ll be warmer then, and why not go ramble? Like Contemporary curator Florence Ostende says, “It might only happen once.” (Kyle Chayka, ARTINFO)
