Kerouac’s Only Play Gets Staging in Lowell

For all the words Jack Kerouac committed to paper over the course of his 47 years, he only wrote a single play, one night’s work, called Beat Generation. Written not long after the publication of On the Road, when he was only just starting to get a taste of the mayhem that would soon overwhelm his life, Beat Generation has never been staged or published in its entirety, although parts of it were reworked for use in the short film Pull My Daisy, which Kerouac narrated. Come October, though, the play’s going to finally get an airing – of a sort; eight staged readings – at the Jack Kerouac Literary Festival. (Matt Trueman, Guardian)
