This December, Main Street Players will present that their first Spanish language play, La Pasión según Antígona Pérez by Luís Rafael Sánchez. The talented cast of ten is currently in rehearsal and is excited to bring this production to life.
Held captive in the palace of Generalísimo Creón Molina, Antigona Pérez is a political prisoner awaiting execution. She stole and buried the irons of two friends who attempted to assassinate Creón, and consents to her sentence by refusing to disclose their location. During her stay in the dungeon, visitors come to test her values, and she’s strongly criticized by the press in charge of misrepresenting the truth. Our production brings this classic story of civil disobedience to modern day. Through this story, we see how values are corrupted, how fear can control our decisions, the courage it takes to remain loyal to our beliefs, and the role society plays in distorting the truth.
The show is directed by Isaac Polanco, and will be stage managed by Daniel Nieves. The cast is as follows:
Antígona – Anne Garcia
Aurora – Adela Romero
Creón Molína – Alejandro Milían
Pilar – Salomé Muriel
