It’s been here before, yes, but not in a long, long time, and now that its home at the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis is going dark for renovation next April, Vermeer’s ridiculously popular Girl With a Pearl Earring is coming back to American in 2013 for a brief tour. It, along with some other high points of the Mauritshuis collection – Rembrandt, Hals, other works by Vermeer – goes to the de Young Museum in San Francisco in the spring, the High Museum in Atlanta from early summer to early fall, and then the Frick beginning October 22.
