Middletown

The West Boca Theatre Company proudly presents Middletown, a new play by award-winning playwright, Dan Clancy, author of The Timekeepers (presented in 2014).  Both humorous and poignant, Middletown is the story of two couples, Don and Dottie Abrams and Tom and Peg Hogan, from Middletown, N.J., their friendship of 37 years, their marriages, the birth of their children and grandchildren, as well as their disappointments and great joys.

Middletown was initially developed during the Jan McArt Reading Series at Lynn University in Boca Raton. Award-winning playwright Dan Clancy and his works have been featured off-Broadway, in regional theaters and in 12 countries. Six 2014 Carbonell Awards went to the Island City Stage production of The Timekeeperswhich has been translated into Hebrew, French, Polish and German.  Clancy’s other plays have included: Volunteer Man, Two Sisters, The First Time, 108 Waverly, and The Perfect Day.  He is a member of The Dramatists Guild and ASCAP.

“If you would like to see a play that will mirror experiences and emotions from your own life and help you revisit these moments – then this is the play for you,” said Clancy. “My hope is that the audience leaves the theater with a range of emotions and that they are moved by the stories told and explored. If people are still talking about the play on the drive home, I will consider it a success.”

For Middletown, Clancy partners with director Peter Pileski whom he describes as a “true actor’s director”; producer Myrna Loman; and some of the most outstanding actors in South Florida regional theatre: Barbara Bradshaw, Peter Galman, Peter Librach and Angie Radosh. “These are truly the best actors for this play,” said Clancy.Middletown is a play that is meant to be read so that the audience can solely focus on the words, the relationships and the story and not be distracted by scenery or movement. The actors perfectly portray the voices and people behind the story and share a wonderful enthusiasm for the work.”
