Millepied forms new dance company in L.A.

Benjamin Millepied attained the sort of notoriety last year that most dancers never do. First, his choreography for Darren Aronofsky’s Oscar-nominated Black Swan was universally lauded upon the film’s release; more than that, Millepied was thrust into the tabloid spotlight when it was revealed that he and Black Swan‘s star, Natalie Portman, were expecting a child together. We shouldn’t, however, forget why he was hired for the film in the first place: his choreography. Last month, he retired from his position with New York City Ballet, and now he’s founded the L.A. Dance Project. The company’s premiere is scheduled for next September at Walt Disney Concert Hall. (FULL STORY: Laura Bleiberg, Culture Monster, Los Angeles Times)
