New play at Lucid Stage probes psyche of Lizzie Borden

“Lizzie Borden took an ax/And gave her mother forty whacks;/When she saw what she had done/She gave her father forty-one.” Cute old rhyme, that, but maybe not so much based in truth; they did acquit ol’ Lizzie, after all. But we still think about her; we still wonder if she did it, and if not her, who – and what of the “temporal fugue” state she was rumored to enter during her menstrual cycle?
