Palm Springs Gets In on Art-Fair Trend; Inaugural Fine Art Fair Honors… Cheech?

We haven’t yet figured out what to make of the recent proliferation of art fairs around the country in recent years, probably some combination of economic feasibility, civic pride and a desire to not get left behind. Trends are important, you know. Palm Springs, California’s legendary playground to the stars (which also has a pretty fair art museum and lots of galleries, remember) has decided to throw its hat into the ring; the first annual Palm Springs Fine Arts Fair kicks off tomorrow and runs through the weekend. There’s an installation dedicated to Judy Chicago, and Daniel Stern’s going to be there, and – yep – they’re giving Cheech Marin the Arts Patron of the Year Award. Hey, good for Cheech.
