Portland Playhouse Goes Home, Takes McCr

The Portland Playhouse got some static from the city last spring about, oh, zoning problems with their ex-baptist church home, that sort of thing. There are places in this country where this battle would still be going on, dragging out in the courts and bankrupting the theatre in the process. Happily, Portland will have none of that mess, and as such its City Council voted unanimously early last month to overturn the zoning ruling and get the Playhouse back in its home quarters. In celebration – and, really, to mark things getting back to normal – PP is staging Tarell McCraney’s wildly acclaimed In the Red and Brown Water through April 15.
