Selections from the Blaisten Collection Will Spend the Summer at the Meadows

Andres Blaisten knew what he liked, and what he liked was paintings. Specifically, paintings by Mexican artists that date from the first half of the 20th Century. (He liked painting, too, apparently, enough to study it at Mexico City’s Academy of San Carlos, but it seems like he turned down the volume on that noise pretty quickly and started buying paintings off his classmates instead.) It was a fertile and crucial time in Mexican history, what with the revolution and all, and Blaisten managed over time to build his collection into something quite remarkable – 8000+ works strong remarkable – and this particular selection of eighty works has been roaming about a bit of late, having gone to the Phoenix Museum of Art last summer and the San Diego Museum of Art over the new year and into February.
