Miami’s Seraphic Fire is going old school for its Christmas concerts this year. Very old school – illumed only by candlelight, singing selections from as far back as the thirteenth century. It’s a refreshing attempt to remind the audience that for centuries Christmas was a dark, solemn affair, and though there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with materialism, we might want to give the spiritual side of the holiday a bit more notice.
