Las Vegas, a city which in many ways is still licking the wounds received from the bottoming-out American economy a couple of years ago, is putting a lot of emphasis – and a lot of its hopes – on its new Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Excellent for them, then, that the early reviews have been extraordinary, across the board, and it’s not too much to think that the Smith Center will, in fact, thrust Vegas into the cultural echelon.
