Somehow, Portland Center Stage Is Doing ‘Anna Karenina’

Listen, Anna Karenina is a fine, fine novel, but it drags in parts. (It does, trust me.) Also, you might have heard that it’s eight hundred pages long, give or take. Ignoring all that, Kevin McKeon, coming straight out of Seattle, managed to knock Count Lev’s wordy masterpiece into something manageable enough to be staged, albeit over three hours, and that’s what Portland Center Stage has on its docket for the month, beginning tonight. If you’re in the neighborhood, give it some serious thought, if only because can you imagine the effort that Mr. Kevin McKeon expended to wrangle ANNA KARENINA into a script?
