‘Souvenir’, tale of musical delusion, now being staged at Columbus’ CATCO

Florence Foster Jenkins was a New York socialite in the early years of the 20th century who was convinced, beyond all reason, that she was an operatic treasure. She was not. This cannot be stated strongly enough. Nevertheless, cockeyed, headstrong conviction in the face of overwhelming evidence is sometimes strangely endearing, and Jenkins possessed enough of this quality to inspire Stephen Temberley’s play Souvenir some sixty years after her death. The play is up in a new staging at CATCO on S. High St. through December 11. (FULL STORY: Michael Grossberg, The Columbus Dispatch)
