Say what you will about its difficult birth, and feel free to make light of its protracted growing pains, but, surprisingly (or perhaps not so, depending on how you look at it), Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark has overcome injuries to performers, reviews ranging from indifferent to caustic, and the loss of its original director to become, if not a hit, at least not the flop that most had predicted.
