Over the last decade or so, starting with his Oscar-nominated turn as Edward R. Murrow in Good Night, and Good Luck, David Strathairn’s become one of those actors who can just be counted on, like J.K. Simmons or John Hawkes. Call them “character” actors if you want, to my eye they’re just guys who you know won’t waste your time. Strathairn, for all of his recent success, has never strayed too far from his West Coast roots, and he’s come back to the San Francisco stage for the first time in 16 years in Wajdi Mouawad’s Scorched, which got going on the 16th and runs through March 11 at A.C.T.
