“Teenie” Harris Resurrected at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum

The sadly underappreciated Charles “Teenie” Harris, a pioneering African-American photographer who shot thousands of luminaries for the Pittsburgh Courier before that paper succumbed to bankruptcy in 1965 – and then continued working for the resurrected New Pittsburgh Courier until 1978 – is the subject of Teenie Harris, Photographer: An American Story, a mammoth, career-spanning retrospective at the Carnegie Museum of Art that runs through April 7.
