Keep this quiet – we don’t want to alarm anyone, now, do we? – but the terracotta warriors are coming. The stoic figures, created to protect the first Chinese emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi, in the afterlife, have been to the United States before, but the upcoming Discovery Times Square exhibition will be the first time they’ve come to New York. (Oh, and by the way – best also probably not to dig into Shi Huangdi’s past too deeply, either. He was a naughty, naughty boy.) The exhibition’s formal title is Warriors: Defenders of China’s First Emperor, which is fairly self-explanatory, and will feature ten of the warriors alongside lots of other stuff extracted from burial chambers. Play it cool and do not disturb the spirits, yes? Opening day is April 27. (FULL ARTICLE: Randy Kennedy, ArtsBeat, The New York Times)
