Christo’s had this idea of draping six miles of silver fabric over the Arkansas River in southern Colorado for about twenty years now, and as with all things Christo there’s a lot of controversy. The project involves digging nine thousand holes along the shoulder of a major U.S. highway, a fairly pristine wilderness that is replete with bighorn sheep. It will bring millions upon millions of tourist dollars to the area. The two-lane highway is also the only way for residents of the area to get to, say, the hospital, and maybe it’s not the best idea to have a couple hundred thousand rubberneckers rolling through the area over the course of two late summer weeks. Such is the ambiguity of Christo. Ergo, controversy. (FULL ARTICLE: Ray Mark Rinaldi, Denver Post)
