This Year’s Atlanta Film Festival Stays Close to Home

All sorts of films and television shows have been filming in Atlanta lately; the problem (and Vancouver probably feels your pain on this one, ATL) is that most of those shows and films haven’t had a thing to do with the actual character and spirit of the city. Atlanta’s streets are every city’s streets, seems to be the sentiment. The curators of this year’s Atlanta Film Festival have had enough of that noise; the 36th edition of the AFF is stuffed with films dealing with local themes, including a handful of provocative documentaries about strippers and wrestlers. Neat. The AFF starts tomorrow and runs through Fools’ Day. (Curt Holman, Creative Loafing Atlanta)
