Trinity Rep Confronts Death and Its Aftermath With “The Mourners’ Bench”

Spring’s supposed to be a time of REBIRTH, Trinity Rep, not death, for pete’s sake, what are you trying to do, upend the cart? Look! The flowers are beginning to bloom again! We kid because we care, of course – death does not take a holiday, no matter what the classic film would have us believe, and one time of year is just as good as another for embracing awareness of its cold, clutching fingers – and the Rep’s got things well in hand with its world premiere of George Brant’s The Mourners’ Bench, which has a lot to do with families, and how they try to kill us. The show’s up on a fairly extended run through May 24. (Bill Rodriguez, Providence Phoenix)
