The noted and rather elite University of Arizona Pep Band takes on a kind of unusual challenge this weekend at the UA Centennial Hall, backing the Trisha Brown Dance Company for a program that features Foray Forêt, a dance that has no set soundtrack. Choreographed by Brown over twenty years ago, it was noted by collaborator Robert Rauschenberg as “the best bad idea (she) ever had.” It’s not like Brown’s been known, historically, for keeping her cards close, though; “Man Walking Down the Side of a Building”, which was exactly that, was forty-two years ago.
