ArtsJournal, a thoughtful and pensive place, is taking a thoughtful and pensive look at what arts organizations, and the arts world as a whole, mean when they talk about “engaging the audience”. Connection, isolation, both things at the same time – more potency attending popular culture rather than “high culture”, as in pop culture being more immediately accessible? Does change need to occur, and what sort, and when, and why? Are the arts intended to lead? This attempt at description is shattered and dazed, admittedly, but that’s only because there is a lot of thought and examination going on here.
