With Funding Cut, L.A.’s Cultural Development Faces Uncertain Future

It’s probably not even worth going over precisely how bad the state of California’s finances are right now: suffice it to say, bad, apparently extraordinarily bad. Bad enough, at any rate, to prompt Governor Jerry Brown to do away with the various community redevelopment agencies that had funded all sorts of arts-related projects in recent years. The move frees up some $3 billion for the state, public schools, and city and county governments, but it’s of course leading to a great deal of concern from local cultural advocates, who fear that the move could dramatically hinder any proposed arts-related public works projects in the future.
