“Zoe Strauss: 10 Years” Opens Tomorrow at Philadelphia Museum of Art

Personal space? Zoe Strauss could care less about your hoary notions of personal space, mortal. She’ll stick that camera lens anywhere she damned well pleases. Know this, above all else: Zoe Strauss will hang with you for five minutes and take your picture, and when she leaves she will know more about you than God knows. This is only a slight exaggeration. Okay, it might be a little more than slight, but I ask you: Go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art at some point before April 22 and take a look at Zoe Strauss: 10 Years, the mid-career Strauss retrospective that opens tomorrow, and you tell me how she gets people to expose themselves like that if she’s not a sorcerer or a mystic or something.
