Art, Ahoy! Free Art Treasure Hunt Comes to Atlanta

"Clown and the Box" (detail), Clarance Williams, ceramic figure with painted wooden box

Atlanta art lovers now have even more reason to be enamored with the city’s creative scene. AtlantaPlanIt and Georgia Perimeter College’s Department of Fine Arts have teamed up to give away one free piece of art a day until December 13. But it’s not that easy. Interested parties are going to have to dig around a bit and embark on a veritable art treasure hunt to find these pieces.

The artwork will be covertly placed in a different arts-related location daily. Previous hiding spots have included Georgia Shakespeare, Atlanta Ballet, Horizon Theatre and WonderRoot. All this hard work won’t be for naught, though. Those lucky enough to find these works of art will walk away with paintings, sculptures and photographs from talented emerging student artists at Georgia Perimeter College.

To begin your art treasure hunt, check the Atlanta PlanIt website for the arts-related location of the day, and make sure to pull up the listing on your smartphone or have a printed copy in hand to show at the door. Once you’ve “X” marked the spot, don’t delay—this plentiful art bounty is going fast.
