St Louis, Missouri’s Salute to Dance: 2012’s National Dance Week

aTrek Dance Collective

Fourteen years ago the United Dance Merchants of America decided to revive a tradition started by Capezio and Dance Magazine to celebrate dance.  The community of St. Louis jumped onboard and today the free event, National Dance Week, which is featured throughout the country from April 20 – 29, boasts many sponsors, over 50 local professional, university, and dance studio companies, as well as classes and workshops.

National Dance Week in St. Louis will be celebrated on Saturday, April 28th at noon and offers free dance performances to the public.  With the mission to heighten dance awareness in the community, the event allows for audience participation as well as exposure to a wide variety of dance styles, including ballet, modern, jazz, and tap.

As the presenters of National Dance week say, “the yearly event “captures everyone’s secret desire to be a great dancer.”  This year National Dance Week in St, Louis will feature the 2012 honorary dance company, aTrek Dance Collective.  With its contemporary base, aTrek is one of the leading performance troupes in the area as well as a training ground for the next generation of dancers.  With their newly created LeverEdge, the company provides an artistic incubator for future choreographers and performers where they can learn, experiment, and become inspired.
