Suzaune McKamey is one of those local performers who could probably succeed as a major star in any other small town. That she chooses to live in New Orleans with its limited offerings for a strong cabaret and nightclub performer is unfortunate. She could no doubt do much better elsewhere, but dang it all, she loves her hometown and won’t hear anything of moving elsewhere.
Thank goodness because she deserves to be considered in rarefied air. She is a stellar and charismatic singer who oozes talent and possesses a beautiful instrument. A graduate of the hallowed Yale Cabaret Conference, she is a poised performer whose repertoire is always quite strong.
McKamey has enjoyed long runs at the Bombay Club and recently had a steady gig at the Royal Palm on the Westbank. She appears tonight from 5:30 till 8:00 p.m. at the J. W. Marriott, 614 Canal Street, in a show titled Suzaune & Company. As added inducement, the hotel is offering free hors d’oeuvres and a wine tasting to coincide with the show. An art show by Margarita Bergen of Casell Gallery will also be on view.
