Celebrate Halloween With Zombie Prom!

Andrews Living Arts brings the musical Zombie Prom to downtown Fort Lauderdale this Halloween Season.  Based on a 1950’s horror comic book, this musical comedy tale of terror will leave you a smile on your face.  Zombie Prom is everything you’ve come to expect from a cult musical comedy – three part harmonies, clever period dancing, surprise plot twists, and horror make-up that will scare you into stitches.  It is a campy, rollicking, romp through America’s Atomic Age and the Golden Age of horror comic books.

Set in the Fabulous 50’s, this is a story of a sweet, Gidget-type, teenage girl named Toffee (Sarah Alexa Boynton) and her “rebel without a cause” boyfriend, Jonny (Robyn  Brenner). The two meet at Enrico Fermi H.S. and fall in love. But the principal, Miss Delilah Strict (Christie Oliver), intervenes, persuading the indecisive young Toffee to break up with Jonny. Tortured by the betrayal, Jonny drives his motorcycle to the nearby Francis Gary Powers Nuclear Power Plant and flings himself into a nuclear cooling tower.

Guilt ridden and alone, Toffee mourns the loss of her love.  As her friends seemingly attempt to comfort her, unexpectedly, Jonny rises from the dead as a Teenage Nuclear Zombie! This mass of now decomposing flesh professes his love, and tells Toffee that he wants her back. He plans to clean up his act, finish school and take her to the senior prom – if she’ll have him. Toffee is racked with indecision, but alas Miss Strict clearly states that “The satanic walking dead are strictly prohibited at Enrico Fermi High”.  At the same time, word of this conflict reaches a slick sensationalist TV newsman who loves a lost cause, Eddie Flagrante (Larry Bressler). Eddie arrives at the school with his film crew to cover the story. But once he arrives, we see that he and Miss Strict share a past, shrouded in an elusive mystery.

The preview performance of Zombie Prom is Oct 10, (all seats $15.) followed by performances every Thurs, Fri. and Sat. at 8 PM and Sat. Oct. 26 at midnight;  Special “Halloween” show, Thurs.
