China Doll . . . Unraveling

The world premiere of the new rock musical Unraveling will appear on March 26th at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Inspired by the true story of the South Florida-based band, “China Doll”, Unraveling bravely tells a story of self-discovery as seen through the eyes of three siblings after surviving a disturbing and abusive childhood. As they struggle to bind themselves together through their mutual love of music, their love for each other is put to the test, as is everything they think they know about how to love.

Unraveling’s haunting score is comprised of songs actually written by the band China Doll, featuring music they’ve created and performed over their twenty year career. Emotionally wrenching, Unraveling is uncompromising in its’ portrayal of the journey taken by survivors of abuse, both physical and emotional, while challenging the conventions of modern musical theatre to create a sound that is uniquely its’ own.

The band China Doll is an indie pop-rock band, making it’s mark on the South Florida music scene since the early nineties. China Doll has played alongside songwriters for Joan Osborne (hit “What If God Was One of Us”), The Kids (Johnny Depp’s band), and Marilyn Manson. They have been featured in New Times (Miami & Broward), City Link, the South Florida Sun Sentinel, and Jam & Rag Magazines. Unraveling will be performed by real life siblings and members of the band China Doll: Rossella Lamendola (lead singer & guitar), Renata Annati (vocals & keyboard), and Matt Annati (bass). Directed by Alex Calle and written and performed by Roxanne Lamendola, this reading features Jamie Mattocks, Dylan Block, Patrick Jesse Watkins, Olivia Williamson, Rayner Garranchan and Trent Stephens.
