Fiddler on the Roof

Currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, a colorful, reimagined version of the classic Tony Award®-winning musical Fiddler on the Roof will hit the Maltz Jupiter Theatre’s stage December 2 – 21, 2014. It’s been five decades since Fiddler on the Roof first premiered on Broadway on September 22, 1964. It was nominated for ten Tony® Awards, winning nine (including best musical, score, book, direction and choreography), and held the record for the longest-running show on Broadway for 10 years. It spawned four Broadway revivals, a highly successful 1971 film adaptation and has enjoyed enduring popularity across the world. Come relive the magic and see the music you saw years ago come alive!

Set in 1905 in the village of Anatevka in Tsarist, Russia, the story follows dairyman Tevye as he fights to maintain his family and heritage. Featuring timeless melodies and songs such as “Sunrise Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “If I Were a Rich Man”,  this beloved musical will capture your heart.  Director and Choreographer Marcia Milgrom Dodge – herself one of four Jewish daughters – has conducted much research to ensure that the production is steeped in historical accuracy of turn-of-the-century Jewish village life in Eastern Europe.   “My passion for Fiddler on the Roof runs deep, and I believe it has remained a beloved treasure because the themes of tradition, family, prejudice and change transcend all boundaries”,  Milgrom Dodge said. “I am ecstatic to be collaborating with a wonderful design team to reimagine Fiddler on the Roof in the musical’s 50th anniversary year.”

Fiddler on the Roof is sponsored by Priscilla Heublein, Kathy and Joe Savarese and Homecare America; tickets start at $54. Tickets are now on sale for all of the shows in the Theatre’s 2014/15 season, including ticket packages and individual show tickets. Season ticket holders save 10 percent to 15 percent on single ticket prices, and groups of 20 or more receive an additional discount.
